Walnut tree and shade

Question

We tore out all the landscape bushes 10 years ago and now need info on what shrubs will tolerate shade and a walnut tree. The tree is at the southwest corner, only 3 feet from the area we want to plant. The south side is in shade all day due to the walnut, an Oak and a giant cottonwood. What shrubs and perennials will work well in that setting? The west side of the house receives only a little sun at the end of the day. I have tried to do some research but I don’t know what to buy. We live in the Twin Cities of Minnesota, Zone 4. Thank you.
