Q.Vegetable Garden Box

Anonymous added on December 14, 2010 | Answered

I have a brick garden box and will be growing herbs and vegetables in the container. I am interested to know the best way to seal the inside of the box. I was going to use Bitumen and then line it with plastic.  Is there a better method? The garden box is about 1/2 metre high.

Dear Brick Garden Box Owner:
The question I pose to you is - are you growing oganically? If so, I do not recommend using Butumen to seal the inside of the brick. There are chemicals in the Butumen which will leach into the soil and absorbed by the root system. I suggest lining the interior with landscape cloth which will contain the soil and allow the water to drain. The plastic will breakdown within a year.
