Q.Trimming Newly Planted Eucalyptus

Anonymous added on October 25, 2011 | Answered

Can a newly planted Eucalyptus, approx. 2 feet tall that has been in the ground about 3 months and growing, be trimmed to get lower branches off grass? Also, the leaves have some grey looking spots on them, can you suggest what it might be and a fix?

It is better to wait until it has been planted for at a least a year or two before pruning. However, if all you want is to remove the branches on the grass, this should be ok.

The grey sounds like sooty mold, which is a symptom of several kinds of pests. I recommend treating the plants with neem oil. This will kill any pests on the plant and treat the sooty mold as well.
