Q.Trimming a hibiscus plant in zone 8

Zone Everglades City, FL 34139 | AudreyG added on May 21, 2019 | Answered

My bush is getting leggy and only blooms at the top. I want to trim it back and everything I’ve read says to do so in the spring. I live south of Naples FL. Can I still trim it back to about 2-3’?

Thanks for any info you’ll provide.

Doing so out of season will leave it susceptible to disease, and wilting due to the rising heat. It is best to wait until next spring. Doing so now may result in the death of the plant.
