If you are in zone 5 and want to grow trees in containers, you need to plant trees that are hardy to zone 3. Roots in containers are more vulnerable to wind and cold because they don't have the protection of the ground. They also need more water.

Here are some ideas. Look for small trees or dwarf trees.
