Q.Transplanting Fig Trees

Zone 75647 in Zone 8 | Nancy Still added on June 1, 2018 | Answered

My fig trees looked healthy green and gorgeous in the pots. They sat for about 3 weeks that way before I got them planted in the ground with cow manure compost mixed in. They immediately turned yellow and lost most of their leaves. What happened? What should I do?

Composted cow manure can very strong if you use too much. especially a young tree. I would, either, repot using fresh soil and well composted, but less materials, or planting in ground with some compost, but using only a small amount until it is established.

Usually, in container, you will have a problem with pH. This can be corrected using dolomitic lime. Just make sure that when you add compost, you only add a little until the tree is mature enough to handle such nutrients.
