I am getting ready to retire and put out a big garden next year. What are the best tomato cages and how big do they need to be?

The best kind are really a matter of preference and whatever type fits your particular needs the most. Making your own is often easier. As for size, I think anywhere from 5-6 feet tall and 18-24 inch diameter should work, depending on the type and size of your tomatoes.
