To Prune Or Not?

Question

A walnut tree of mine grew a branch which is now touching the main trunk of the tree. See picture, the arrow indicates where they are touching. The branch seems to be ‘fusing’ to the trunk. Should I prune the branch? Should I leave it? Thanks a lot.

Crossing or rubbing branches should always be pruned out. This pamphlet has good information.
