Q.Tiny insects in potting soil

Zone Punta Gorda, Fl. 33983 | Audrey Sargie added on December 27, 2015 | Answered

I have a large Diffenbachia in a large pot. The area around the pot (floor) has tiny insects each morning. There are none on the plant. They look like specks of dirt; they are so tiny. Should I spray with a plant insecticide? It almost looks like they are falling off the leaves but I can’t see any on the plant.

Thanks, Audrey

Yes, I would treat the plant with Neem Oil.
Neem Oil is organic and safe for people and pets.

Make sure you spray the entire plant and you can even spray the soil

surface.
The specks you are finding are likely the residue from the insects, called honeydew.
