Q.Tangerines turning yellow, then brown in one spot

Zone 90807 | dbergeronbirge added on October 30, 2017 | Answered

Can anyone help? My tangerine tree is very prolific. It is planted in the ground. Last season we had the start of the above-mentioned problem, and this year, it is much worse. We usually get a great crop by January (we live in Long Beach, CA; about 7 miles from the ocean.) This year, there are a lot of the fruits with this widening spot.. We’ve checked a few inside and there doesn’t appear to be any insects or worms inside. I checked the UCDavis ag dept. list and couldn’t find the problem in their list. Thanks for any help/suggestions.

This sounds like it could be a case of citrus brown rot. There is not a lot you can do for treatment, but if you use the methods that are described in the article, then you can rid the tree of the disease. Here is an article that will help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/citrus/citrus-fruit-brown-rot.htm
