I would like to know if I spray the grass with grass killer and plan to put down paper to keep grass from coming through, do I need to get the grass up or can I just leave it after killing it and put the paper on top? I am just going to put woodchips on top and no plants.
This article should help you with that: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/weeds/how-to-kill-grass-naturally-kill-unwanted-grass-in-your-yard.htm
Is there an herbicide that kills grass but leaves broad leaved plants alone?
Yes, there are several grass specific herbicides on the market. Just look for one marked for killing grass. They should be carried at almost all nurseries and hardware stores.
We have a bird feeder that finally attracted many sparrows. Next to the feeder is a gravel walkway that I have managed the weeds with a spray. Here lies the problem. I cannot find information regarding the safety of the birds. The weeds are winning. Any suggestions?

We have a small stream with steep banks, about 3 feet high. They get overgrown w/ jewelweed and other nasty weeds every year. How can I: A)safely rid the weeds, and B)plant some nice, beneficial plants?
I think your best option would be to plant something pretty that would be as tough as the weeds are and will eventually push them out. Creeping juniper (also called vinca minor) is a popular choice. Your only other option, other than spraying with chemical herbicide would be to hand-pull. You would need to pull the jewelweed before it blooms to avoid spreading more seeds.
We will be planting a hedge in few months time but need to treat the area now to get rid of weeds. In the past we have used sodium chloride, as weeds are quite prolific, but we have only had a fence in that area before so it wasn't a problem if the soil got affected. What would you suggest we use now to get rid of weeds so as not to affect the soil for when we plant the hedge.
If you have a few months time, I would actually recommend black or clear plastic. Pin it down over the area and let the sun do the work. It will cook the soil and will not only kill the weeds, but their seeds as well. This is called solarization. What is a pet friendly weed eliminator? We have huge spindly weeds growing at our investment property around an unused clothes line, around a concrete slab, and around a concrete path. There is a dog that lives there and eats the grass.

What kind of weed killer can I use that will not kill flowers and centipede grass. The articles on weed killers that are pet safe was very helpful.
The only weed killer I know of that will not harm flowers and grass is broadleaf weed killer. This will kill many of the types of weeds found in the garden, but not all. It is a chemical weed killer and could be harmful to pets. There are no organic weed killers that are specific to just broadleaf.
