I want to transplant part of a smoke bush to my home from my grandmother's old home. She no longer lives there but the people who do have agreed to allow me to take a small piece of the smoke bush (which has been passed down through my family for three generations) and try to transplant it in my yard. I can only take a small piece. I do not know how to do this though. Do I need roots, or seeds or a stem? When should I plant and where should I plant it (full sun/shade etc.)? Thank you for your help!
You will need to take a cutting from the plant. This article will help with that: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/tgen/how-to-root-cuttings-from-various-shrubs-bushes-and-trees.htm
I have a very large...10 ft. smoke bush with small leaves and flowers on just one side. Idon't want to cut it all the way to the ground to rejuvenate. I love the shape and size. Can I remove just a third of the stems/trunks to help it along? How longwill it take to fill in again?
While you can't prune without losing size, your bush will look so much better, and flower so much more, that you won't mind. Something many people don't understand is that you can cut a plant almost anywhere, and it won't damage the plant. Also, all you need to do is stand back and look at your plant, and decide how you want it to look, and cut off everything that doesn't fit within that look. You only need to cut what you are comfortable with. This article discusses some more of the fine points: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/smoke-tree/pruning-smoke-trees.htm
I have 2 small smoke trees that, since October, I have been trying to get root growth. I trimmed their roots and put them into a bucket of water. I have not seen any root growth and am now wondering if water is the wrong way to go. Should I get root stimulator and get them into soil? I'm not sure what to do at this moment and I fear I have already lost one of them. Please help!!
For smoke trees, water may be too much for them. Putting them in soil would be better. Their roots need to breathe, and all water that does not have an aeration system will suffocate the roots. This is why soil is better. Once in soil, a root stimulator may help, as might bone meal.
We have a smoke tree in yard about 9 feet tall. At about 30" the trunk splits into two branches with beautiful leaves on these branches. On the main trunk at ground level are three branches coming up with leaves; they are 12 to 24 inches in height. Do they need to be cut off or do they remain? Thank you.
Sounds like you have some suckers sprouting from ground level, you will definitely want to prune those.

Couple of days ago I bought this plant. Need to know its name and caring instructions. Awaiting your kind reply. Shahin.
Thank you very much for your reply and letting me it's name and caring suggestion. I will take care of it according to your suggestion.
Re soil : In your article I found that you alkaline for some plants and acidic soil for some plants. I also read about adding lime. Some people suggests me to mix crashed egg shel with soil.
Do you suggest adding crushed egg shell with soil for all plants ? As bonemeal for plants is not available here.
Thanks again.
Shahin
Shahin - Egg shells provide calcium to your garden which is essential for cell growth in all plants so you may definitely use it. However, bone meal provides phosphorus and calcium. Egg shells do have a small amount of phosphorus but is not as strong a source of phosphorus as bone meal. So, in that respect, they are not totally interchangeable.
It looks like a smoke tree to me (Cotinus coggygria). Here is an image for identification:

How long does it take for the blossoms to puff out on a smoke tree? My tree is full of small blossoms.
Flowering on a smoke tree typically starts happening in June, so you should start seeing something within the next month or so.

If I prune my smoke trees as bushes, does this mean that they will not flower in the spring? Our smoke trees are quite tall and we want to prune them back. We don't want to lose the flowers though. They are about 5-10 years old with a couple being a few years younger. We've never really pruned them seriously.
Pruning can help you maintain a more compact look to your Smoke Tree.
You should prune in early spring or fall to reduce stress to your plant.
