Hello: I am a new gardener and I have a small red raspberry bush that has two large runners(?) which are probably a meter in length each and the rest is pretty very small and stubby. It is currently in a 7 gal clotch container with acidic soil (I have been waiting for the rest of the heatwave to cool off before transferring to a larger container). I want to help the rest of the plant grow. I know it probably won't fruit until next year. Should I trim the runners or let them do their thing? Should I trellis them? Thank you for any advice you can help. I have a small apartment garden so space is limited, but i am doing by best and trying to be more confident about it. Sincerely, Erin
They can be a bit more care-intensive in container, but this can be done! Here are some articles that will help:

We have an old patch of raspberries that appear to need pruning but I don't know when or how, for that matter
This will depend on the type of raspberry that you have. This article will help you to know when and how to prune the different types of raspberries:

when should I cut back my golden rasberries, in the fall or in the spring?
It will depend on if the cultivar that you have are Summer- bearing or Fall-bearing, since they are treated like reds. There are two way to go about pruning, should yours be Summer-bearing.

Potatoes were grown in one of my fields in summer of 2020. Now I want to add raspberries. I read that raspberries should not follow potatoes and that they should not be grown nearby. How far from the potato field is safe to plant raspberries? (I can plant downwind from the potatoes)
I would go with the 300 feet, same as the distance from blackberry bushes.

Have a problem with my raspberry plants. A small brown section appears on the upper side of the leaf towards the inner middle. The brown section than grows across the whole leaf from the middle to the outside and the plant shrivels up and dies. Not sure what this is and was hoping you could assist. Image 2 - start of the brown discoloring on the leaf Image 1 - brown discoloring spreading on the individual leaf Image 3 - brown discoloring spreading to other leaves Image 4 - brown discoloring spreads and causes plant to shrivel Image 5 - plants dying Note - the brown discoloration does not rub off (eg produce powder)
Check the stems and canes for discoloration, too. It could be spur blight, one of the main diseases of raspberry in NSW.

They've been successful for 20 years but when I've tried to replace them they dont root and die.
There may be some soil pathogens left from the previous fruit. You can start a new plot or sterilize the existing soil. Adding compost will help, too.
