What would your recommendations be for planting red & black raspberries in the central Ohio area. Also I have read conflicting articles about if they need to be planted away from each other or not. Type of soil each would be recommended.
Whether to plant red and black raspberries together is largely a matter of garden economics. If you can separate them, do so, simply because their growth patterns are different; otherwise, plant them together.
Stick with nursery-purchased plants that are certified disease-free. and red and black raspberries will likely stay healthy for many years, even when planted together.

We recently acquired some young raspberry bushes. We haven't transplanted them from the pots we got them in yet, but something is eating them now! Can anyone help me identify the pest and natural methods I can use to control them.

our raspberry patch produced very little fruit this year ...the berries are small and many of the buds did not grow into berries ...we fertilize and water the canes ... we prune dead canes and we have put black covering in the patch to prevent weeds ...the leaves looks good ....previous years we have had bountiful crops
This has been a difficult growing season for gardeners. If you are getting flowers with no fruit, this is typically a pollination issue. These articles may help:

If you are not seeing any flowers, then it is likely due to a lack of phosphorus in the soil. This can be remedied by using a phosphorus rich fertilizer or adding bone meal to the soil around your plants.

Duluth, MN.--I have a small patch and each fall I have been removing the canes that bore fruit. Past years bushes usually got to about 5 feet tall. This year I added some recommended fertilizer along with straw and leaf mulch and with all the rain they have grown to 7-8 feet tall. Question: after removing the canes that bore fruit this year, should I top the remaining bushes and if so how much should be pruned away? Gene.
Depending on the type of raspberry, knowing when to prune can be tricky. I have an article here that will help you: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/fruits/raspberry/pruning-raspberry-bushes.htm
