What does rose rust look like? Picture?
The stones are likely just sitting on the surface, covering the soil.
The soil should stay fairly dry. When the soil is dry, water until the soil is saturated, and they let the soil dry out again.

Mine has done well for several years. Recently it put out a light green center. After that it leaned sideways and seemed rotten at the stem. The bulb is solid so I took the top off. Is there any hope it will survive and put our leaves again?
If you have lost the entire top of the plant, it may not put out any other growth.
If it is a young plant, I have seen some reports of regrowth.

can you trim a ponytail palm if its to long, how high will it get, plant has solid stones on bottom, how do I know when to water, can't tell if its dry.
There is no way to control the height of a Ponytail Palm.
Soil should dry between waterings.

I have had this plant for about 4 year's now. The top leaves are green, but the lower ones are brown. I haven't done anything to it other than water it once in awhile. How can I get the brown ones off?
It's best to just carefully cut or trim the brown or dead edges of the leaves.

Hi, I have an 8' wall that divides my house from the neighboring development. The wall currently has fig leaf growing on it. I hate trimming it. I was considering removing the fig leaf and planting ponytail palms to mask the wall. I live in Florida. This area of the yard gets sunlight the majority of the day. How can I achieve this? I would really appreciate you input!! Anne

I've a ponytail palm that I'd saved from a car accident (it was run over) it is about 2' tall, my problem is that it has a large crack in the bark by the base, up to 1' up the tree forming a large void behind it. how can I save it before the pests finish it! ---Karl---
You can try splinting it with some wood dowels and tying them in place with some garden ties.
Spray the wound with Neem Oil it deter pests.
