Hello, I am a gardening novice and have just bought a new home with two large gardens which I dont know what to do with. Specifically I would like advice about what type of tree to buy for screening. I have a 2m fence and would like a single evergreen tree that will cover up the space above the fence to block my neighbours view of my garden. Ideally a tree that is large enough to block the view from a first floor window but not much taller than that. Also I would prefer if it has a trunk to about 1.5m-2m and then the branches above this I live in Scotland and it is regularly -8 degrees in winter so it needs to be something hardy. Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated.

July 22, 2025Q.Full Shade Plants To Reduce Erosion
Hi, My house was built in an area that was filled in with stones and dirt to enable its construction. The backyard ends in a line of arborvitae that transitions to a steep slope (30 to 40 degrees) and connects to a wooded area. This transition area is under complete shade and is slowly eroding. The portion that concerns me is a section between the red lines on the attached pictures that lies between two trees some 10 feet apart. You can see that the previously somewhat flat area has been eroding and is joining the section of steeper slope. I do occasionally walk over this transition area, which is covered with English Ivy in some places. I would love to have the area entirely covered with English Ivy, which I think is great, but it spreads slowly. What other type of plants can I use to subdue the erosion? Thank you
