p and one inch under the soil is dry. Why do my plants die?? Is it inadequate soil? I use Miracle-Gro Potting Mix and Miracle-Gro Potting mix cactus, succulent and palm. Not much humidity in my house. My philodendron has been limp and not flourishing. I'm really disappointed that my plants don't do well and would love to know how to fix this problem for all my plants. I would also like to know which plants would best suit me.
You may be growing plants that need more light or more humidity. Also, overwatering is the No. 1 reason why plants fail. Here are some plants that do well in medium light:

my 10" philly needs to be transplanted, it's outside in the shade and had very long root runners, will it hurt it if I cut them back?
No, it shouldn't hurt to cut them back by about half. Have the new location ready before you dig up the Philly. Water the plant well a day or two before digging. Get as much of the rootball as possible. Transfer, then water well.

Plant is in the dining room, getting plenty of house lighting from windows
I would check your soil pH and nutrient content:

We planted small leaf philodendron beneath our very mature and large live oak tree. Some vines have started to grow up the trunk. Is this dangerous for the tree?
If the philodendron doesn't die back in the winter it could potentially harm the tree. Here is more:

I live in San Francisco and am moving. I have a beautiful split leaf philodendron which I can't take with me. It's in beautiful shape and has sentimental value to me. I want it well taken care of! Where can I donate it and give it a good home?
Your local library might be an option or other public institutions like schools and universities. Have you asked neighbors, family, and friends?
I know how to repot a plant, but not sure how to put this one in new pot so it won’t continue leaning
You will need to cut it off where it is starting to curve and start a new one! Make sure there is at least one node on the cut off stalk (where a leaf meets the stem). You can root it in water or in soil. If you root it in soil, add about 1/2 perlite to the mix. Cover it with a plastic bag to increase humidity.
New shoots will grow on the original cut stem. Add a moss pole for it to adhere to for a straighter new stem.
