Weed eater damage can be very detrimental to the tree. It allows entry for disease and insects, as well as tree girdling. Suckers on fruit trees need to be removed, so you have nothing left on your apple tree.

I live in Coeur D’Alene Idaho and I want to plant a persimmon tree. The area is zone 5; recommendation for a persimmon tree is zone 7. Would the tree survive and bare front in this area?
If you get the American persimmon, which is native to zones 4-9, it will tolerate your cold winters. The Asian persimmon is not as hardy.

I have 3 year old Hachiya variety persimmon tree with curling and burnt appearance on edges. I live in Los Angeles. I believe it is not lack of water. I have Fuyu persimmon trees nearby with no problem.
