I have grown herbs like Italian basil, parsley, Thai basil, mint, lemon grass, curry leaves, stevia, etc. But I am unable to grow oregano. It has germinated but not that successful. Also the same with cilantro. I live in India (Mumbai). I had sown seeds of oregano, which I had purched from USA.
I bought some oregano seeds and they came up, but the package has pink flowers on it. I have herd that Greek oregano has white flowers, so I don't know what kind of seeds these are. Please help.
All marjoram is grown and used the same way. This article will help; https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/herbs/marjoram/tips-for-growing-marjoram.htm
Formerly listed botanically as Origanum heracleoticum, Greek oregano is often commercially grown as Origanum vulgaris, or wild marjoram. This is the variety having pink flowers and most likely the type you have. Origanum vulgaris hirtum, however, is the true Greek oregano with white flowers.
tthanks but what can i do with wild marjuam
I would like to grow oregano and basil next to each other and rosemary and sage next to each other. Also, which herb is best for parsley to grown next to? Are these combinations ok?
As long as they all share similar growing conditions, then it's fine to plant these next to one another. For additional information on companion planting with herbs, this article should help: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/herbs/hgen/companion-planting-in-your-herb-garden.htm
When we plant herbs, either in the ground or in containers, we take a few things into consideration. Color, moisture requirements, heigth, width, and leaf shape. We try to mix all the elements tohave a visually pleasing and interesting planting. (Unless, we are doing a "mono" planting, where everything is supposed to be similar)
How do I get rid of the oregano in my garden? I planted oregano about 2 years ago and it is taking over my garden. It is growing around my lilies and everything else in the garden.
I would try pulling up as much as you can by hand first, especially around your other plants. You can then use any non-selective herbicide containing glyphosate (like Roundup), but make sure it doesn't get on any plants you want to survive. You can normally use a shield of some sort, like cardboard boxes, to protect the other plants by placing it over top of them while spraying. In place of the herbicide, you can try boiling water, but again, this will kill any plant on contact so shield the plants you're keeping.
Do deer eat Oregano and Rosemary plants in an open garden?
Generally, no. These herbs are considered deer resistant. However, this does not mean the same thing as deer proof. When hungry enough, deer will eat anything.
Mint rust has infected herbs in my garden, including my oregano and sage. Do I need to remove all plants and treat the soil?

When I cut oregano to dry, it smells minty. Why?
Oregano is a genus of the mint family, so you are smelling a hint of mint!
