My question is probably different from most! We bought a house 4 years ago and the backyard was a beautiful moss carpet. I could not find any landscapers that knew how to take care of it. Life got in the way and it needs some TLC and rehabbing. Suggestions on leveling it a bit as erosion has caused sunken areas. The whole thing slopes down significantly, but there are recessed areas I would like to fill it. There is also some kind of grass growing through it. Can I feed the moss to knock it out, or am I relegated to hand pulling? There is alot of it. How do I care for it going forward...any resources?
Yes, hand pulling will be your method of control, here, unfortunately.
Filling in low spots can be done with a little topsoil, followed by replacing the moss.

our lawn person says we have lawn moss, bare spots that are covered in a flat looking something that wont allow grass to grow. he says before we plant grass it should be removed. since there are spots all over our lawn, how do we go about removing it without too much problem (we're in our 70s and cant bend over well to dig it out) so we can plant grass? thanks!
This is going to be a work-extensive process! It may be best to contact your local extension service for help with this project.

I am having trouble with this and I want to know if this is a peat moss or java moss. Someone told me it looks like a java moss which is not advised for the carnivorous plants...
It looks like a young Sphagnum more so than Java. Long Fiber Sphagnum will be best, though!

This year I wanted to try something new for my summer garden. I decided to try a moss garden. It started off small but did not stay small for long. All spring, summer and now fall I have been adding moss. I have many different kinds. When I see moss that I like and it's in a public area I gather some. Private property I ask permission. My question is after all the work I have put in will my moss grow back next spring?
If you took them, locally, and care for them properly, it will stay around.

Having just scarified my lawn I have sacksful of moss, can I put on compost heap?
You may want to set it aside and add small amounts at a time. It takes a long time to compost. Or compost it by itself.
Lawn is nothing but grass. It is shaded and does not get enough sun. Trees shading it are not on our property. How do we rid it of moss and start over with shade tolerant grass?
Moss is often used as a substitute for grass and you don't have to mow! If you want to remove it, here is help:
