October 19, 2011Q.Transplanting Monkey Grass
Can transplanting monkey grass be done this time of year also? I just read here that spring is a good time but when you cut it back in March, it blooms in late June and now it has berries on them. It just doesn't seem to leave enough time between cutting and bloom time. I have A LOT to move and the time right now to do it.

Certified ExpertA.You can transplant now. Really, as long as temps are relatively cool, you can do your transplanting.

Certified ExpertA.No, there isn't anything special that you need to do for the monley grass. It will eventually go dormant. Once spring returns, you can prune it back then to allow for new growth to emerge. We have all our fences surrounded by monkey grass. I would like to paint the fences this fall. Is it ok to trim the monkey grass in the fall instead of early spring?

Certified ExpertA.You can mow your monkey grass. It typically only needs to be done once a year or so, to revitalize it. It will not look as smooth as a turf grass does after mowing, but the mowing serves a different purpose.
