I was away from home about 8 to 10 months. After returning I found the tree leaves getting yellow.
It's possible whoever took care of it did not keep it evenly moist. Return to your usual care practices and it should bounce back.

Yesterday a friend gave me a 3-foot cutting when she pruned her Ming aralia. Would it be better to do multiple starts from this cutting? Folks here have started theirs in water but I read in your Q&A that roots started in water are different than roots started in soil. I would like to get as many healthy plants as I can. I appreciate specific guidance. Thank you
I suggest cutting it into two or three plants by cutting the main stem in half or into thirds. Remove the lower leaves on each cutting so you can plant them in pots of soil. Dip the ends into rooting hormone if you have it, but it's not required.

I only have windows on the south and east. Will this work? Can you summer them outdoors and bring them back inside? I enjoy your newsletter also!
Yes, you can summer it outdoors, but keep it out of direct sunlight. Dappled shade or a little morning sun would work. Make sure to bring it back inside before temps hit 50 degrees F. Inside, you can keep it near the east windows. Here is more:

Dropping and doesn’t look good also gave it way to much water
I would. They do like moist soil, but not wet and over fertile soil. Replanting will stress it out, but will be less stress than what has been done.
