December 31, 2023Q.Will My Indoor Hyacinth Have Any Chance Of Blooming Again?
My Hyacinth bloomed early this year in late December. I bought it on a trip in Paris and a couple days later I dropped it in the airport. A lot of bulbs fell off, but the day we got back to California it started blooming. There is no stem and the flowers are sitting in between the leaves at the bottom. I've never owned a Hyacinth and only recently found how hard they are to bloom. If I transplant it into a bigger pot with regular gardening soil, will it have any chance of blooming again next year? Also, we did it bloom so early?

Certified ExpertA.Getting them to re-bloom means giving them the cool season to go dormant and grow properly. Depending on your location, you may need to give them a dormancy in your refrigerator before they will do as they are supposed to.

I planted a bunch of hyacinths along the driveway. The first year they came up beautiful, however, in subsequent years, I get very few flowers because my husband mows them over before they have a chance to die back. If I dig them up and replant them with some bulb tone, will they come back to full bloom? Thanks!

Certified ExpertA.Overwatering can cause yellowing. If you have it outside, it should dry out fairly quickly. If you are keeping it inside, go ahead and replace the soil with fresh soil as it will take longer to dry indoors. Then only water when the soil is dry.
