Collars create a barrier around the base of seedling plants and trees to protect them from pests. There are many types and you can even make your own. A row cover is a sheer (but not clear) covering placed over plants. Row covers can also guard against pests as well as cool weather conditions.

At a basic level, you need to check that your plant has the right light, the right fertilizer and the right amount of water.

Some plants need more light than others, so if your plants are not growing, check to see if their variety needs more or less light.

Almost all plants need nutrients, but some need more than others and different kinds. Check if the plant needs fertilizer to provide these nutrients.

All plants need water, but too much or too little water can stunt or even kill a plant. Is your plant getting enough water or not? Is it drowning or dying of thirst?

Annuals will only live a season. Some annuals will reseed themselves, but the mother plant will die and new seedlings will grow to replace her.

Perennials come back each year. Some perennials are evergreen and stay green year round while others are deciduous and die back to the ground to regrow from the roots or bare branches.

In general, annuals are more prolific bloomers than perennials while perennials will return year after year.

Full sun is 6 hours of sun or more. Most sun loving plants usually get more.

Leaves are continually releasing moisture. They actually breath, a little like animals. And just like our breath contains moisture, so does theirs.

When a leaf is removed from a plant, the vascular system of the plant is no longer able to replenish the water the leave is naturally releasing. This is also combined with the evaporation, and eventually the leaf dries out.

Many things can cause leaf curling, anything from pests and disease to a lack of nutrients or water. Check for pests. Neem oil is good for treating most pest issues and is a fungicide as well. Have the soil tested to determine if you are lacking any nutrients and treat as needed. Also, make sure the plant is getting enough water.
