Annuals will only live a season. Some annuals will reseed themselves, but the mother plant will die and new seedlings will grow to replace her.

Perennials come back each year. Some perennials are evergreen and stay green year round while others are deciduous and die back to the ground to regrow from the roots or bare branches.

Have the soil tested to determine if you are lacking any nutrients and treat as needed. Also, make sure the plant is getting enough water.
