Why does my Gardenia bush have a black looking color to the leaves? Could it be a type of mold? What do I need to do?
This is sooty mold. It happens when the plant gets a pest infestation. I would recommend using neem oil, as this will get rid of the sooty mold fungus and kill the pests. I have a lovely gardenia tree. Seems to be doing OK so far but have been spraying with Neem oil to get rid of black soot on leaves. What else can I use?
Neem oil is generally quite effective in treating both the aphids and the sooty mold problem. In order to rid the plant of sooty mold, you must first take care of the aphids. Take care to wash off the sticky residue from foliage prior to applying the neem oil, and also coat both sides of the leaves--paying special attention to the backside, as this is most commonly where the aphids congregate. More than one application is often necessary but after some patience and vigilence, this should take care of the problem.
The bark and leaves of my gardenia bush is black. It comes off when I wipe the leaves after watering it. But the bark is crusted with it. Also broke a piece of bark off and it has bugs in it. What can I do to clean the leaves and bush and make it healthier? It is getting ready to bloom soon so I don't want to cut the branches back.

I have several gardenia bushes. I live in the panhandle of Florida. My bushes were very green. After 2 weeks the leaves are all turning yellow and the good ones are starting to turn yellow. I applied a bug spray 2 weeks ago for all kinds of insects. What do I need to do to get the plants green again? I don't know if they are dying. This is the first year I had these types. I planted them last summer. Thank you so much.

My husband has been cutting/trimming the gardenia bushes as if they are hedges. I think that is why they are not blooming. PLEASE help! My questions: When do the flowers usually bloom? When, if at all, should he trim them? I don't think at all.
In order to prune without hurting blooming, you should wait until after the plant's blooms have faded, which should be in the summer. Here is more information: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/flowers/gardenia/when-to-prune-a-gardenia.htm

I have potted gardenias that were left outside over a European winter. The leaves are now yellow/brown and very brittle. Is there something I can do to rescue the plants? Should I prune them to remove the dead leaves or should I leave them and just start fertilizing them? Any advice you can provide is much appreciated.
