Took pic on walk down my son's street in Watsonville, California. Is this a fried egg plant? Thanks. Don't suppose it could grow where I live in Richmond, IL? (60 mi NW of Chicago) Linda
I'm sorry but we did not receive your photo. Here is an article on fried egg plant that will aid in your identification:

The fried egg plant is rated for USDA plant hardiness zones 8-10. Richmond, Illinois is zone 5A, so it would not be a good fit.
I have 10 x 8m tall gordonias that were planted as a Hedge style plant but were left to grow tall with a thicker shrub in front which took all the sunlight. So now the trunks of the gordonias are just trunks. I’d like to the remove the thicker shrubs totally and then cut the gordonias back to 1.5m trunks and ideally have them rebud and bulk out. Am I hoping for something that the gordonia just won’t do I?
Yes, this is one way to get them to bush out a little more. This article will help you with the, general, care of the shrub:
