I have a fern close to the house that has always thrived but this year it is a pale green. Does it require fertilizer?
This is likely a sign that the roots have dried out and the fern is in need of moisture.

Is it a good idea to use used coffee grounds to feed my ferns? I know it's good for lawns. I was wondering if the same is true for the ferns.
Ferns are among many houseplants that can benefit from coffee grounds as fertilizer.

We have a fern that has been in the family for over 100 years. This summer it starts new shoots and then and they increase in size, they turn brown and die? What can you recommend? Jim Bagniewski

I have a lot of ferns in the garden. We had a bad hail storm and the ferns are shredded and laying down. Many with broken stems. What do I do to rejuvenate them. Will new growth happen at this time in the season. I live in Minneapolis, MN.
Ferns are quite tough, and though they may not look their best this year, they should recover. Trim the damaged fronds from the plants.
I live in rural central Oregon and have deer and rabbits in my yard frequently. I am wondering if the deer like ferns to eat. They seem to like most everything in my yard. Thanks, Kay Landers
Deer usually don't like to eat ferns but if food or water is scarce, they will eat what is available. You can deter from your ornamentals by providing sacrificial plants for them to eat or using repellents.
