My tree's leaves are turning brown halfway up the tree. The top is all new leaves and the smaller branches are dead.
There are several things that could cause this in your tree. If you have had colder than usual winters for the past 2 years, as much of the country has, the stress from the cold may have hurt it. The tree may also have a pest or a fungus. I would recommend treating the remaining tree with neem oil. It will kill both pests and fungus on the tree. You may also want a local tree expert to come out and look at the tree to more accurately diagnosis the problem.
My tree did not recover from the winter and looked dead until about 2 weeks ago, and now there is new growth on the trunk of the tree, up to 6. 5 feet, but all the big limbs and rest of the tree looks dead and dried out. Should I be worried? The tree is about 28 feet tall and 12 years old. I live in Cottonwood, AZ.

If they are dead, then there is not much you can do but remove the dead growth and hope the lower growth can make up for it.
Is there a eucalyptus tree that will survive in northern Virginia?
Yes, there are a few that will. Some varieties to look at are Eucalyptus neglecta, Eucalyptus nitens and Eucalyptus regnans.
How do you suggest I move a eucalyptus tree that is about 5 feet high?

I purchased a small Eucalyptus plant early this summer and have planted it in a fairly large pot out on the patio. It is growing nicely. I noticed that I will need to prune it. When would suggest that I do that? I will have to bring it in the house this winter, so I don't want a terribly big tree to bring in. We live in Kansas. Do the trees put out fragrance?

I would like to plant a tree close to my front door and I like the smell of the Eucalyptus tree. I do want an evergreen tree that won't get too wide and that I can keep somewhat shaped. I have a rather large Japanese Red Maple plant in the same area and the Eucalyptus tree would be planted behind it, next to the house.
If you are in Zone 7-11, it is an evergreen. If you do not know your planting zone, refer to this link.
