Greetings and Salutations ! I would like to buy some plants but I've never done a garden before. I am REALLY intimidated by the spacing and sizing aspect. I know that I want all UNIQUE perennials for my island - see pic below. I can dig up the Stella D'Oro daylillies if you think so, but the Mrs. wants to keep the two Otto Luyken laurels in the two corners. The dimensions of this "triangular" island are approximately 26' X 22' X 24' Ideally I'd like some BRIGHT, low-growing ground cover, then a few taller plants, then a few more taller plants climaxing with the highest (and concentrated in the center) to be some Fire Dance Red Hot Pokers. What do you recommend?

our gardener cut down our daylilies and hosta by mistake. will they come back or do I need to start all over?
They should come back. Maybe give them a boost with a general purpose fertilizer
How can I eliminate invasive day lilies?
Most Daylily can be dug up and removed.
You can treat stubborn bulbs and roots with a herbicide.
Use caution when applying herbicides.

Hello, I planted daylilies along a strip between an urban road and sidewalk. I chose daylilies because they are tough/robust plants that grow and flower well. However, I don't think they are receiving enough direct light for them to thrive. Is there an alternative shade plant that could tolerate urban conditions and provide similar benefits? Thanks.

Hello, When the flower on a day lillies is spent do I cut back that spent flower to the base of the plant? Is it necessary to cut back that flower right away or should I wait until the flower has dried?
Cutting the spent flower and stem close to the base of the plant should encourage to rebloom.
Should I cut off the balls that come after the plant has bloomed? ( on top of the plant.)
Unless you plan of collecting seeds to grow new plants, remove spent flowers and any seed pods that have developed to encourage new flower development.
Do I have to dead head them daily. I would like more blooms.
Deadheading the Lilies will actually help the plant.
I try to deadhead either in the evenings or first thing in the morning. Each flower lasts about 24 hours.
