    I wonder if I should move them in the fall? The tree is young, but it would eventually offer some shade....but maybe not till the next season or two.

    They may be getting too much sun. Coral bells do best in filtered light or in woodland gardens. Too much water will also sound the death knell. Here are ideal growing conditions:

    It could, very well, be overwatering. This will, usually, lead to infection. I would suggest a fungicide and only watering when the soil is dry down to, about, 4 to 6 inches. these articles will help:
