I have a small garden and need to plan carefully.
Here's a great article that should help you plan your garden:

I grow everything in containers. Is it still important to keep antagonist plants on opposite ends of the garden space, or since they are in their own pot can I put them next to each other?
I think it's still a good idea to keep them separated. Sometimes companion plants simply attract away unwanted insects, and others do the opposite. Since they aren't competing for soil nutrients, in some cases it may not be as important as in the garden, but there are so many variables, I would keep them at least a short distance apart. There are other reasons plants don't like other plants, so it's best to keep them near friends. Here's an article about plant incompatibility:

my wife wants me to build her an herb planter. I want to build a multi tiered ladder, will the herbs on different levels effect each other?
This sounds like a great project. It's not just shared soil that makes plants good for one another or not, but the insects they attract or repel and other factors. Most herbs grow well together if containerized; here's an article:

Just thought they would look good together. I would use a bigger plant pot.
Sure! I don't see a reason why these two would have an issue with each other. Just be sure to feed, often, as both will consume nutrients, quickly.

if anyone has suggestions on a shrub between to new paper bushes would be much appreciated. As you know, they are in a fairly shaded area and have about 6 feet between them. Thanks in advance :)
A camellia would do nicely between them.
