We have had this clematis for over 10 years as a gift so we aren't aware of what kind it is. It is planted in a corner garden within a 6' fence. Last year, it bloomed on the back side facing the fence. This year is is blooming on the bottom half of the vine. We are wondering if we should trim off the top?
Pruning is desirable for the deciduous clematis (some are evergreen), depending on the type. Since you aren't sure of the variety, it is best to prune after flowering to remove old growth. If you are sure the top doesn't have any buds, go ahead and trim it off now. Here is more:

I have a Clematis, had it for around 10 years. It's cropped back every year after flowering and dying off.Its had damage due to wind blowing fence down too... Recently it's grown quicker than ever and have noticed that there is 1 multiple petaled flower, all the other flowers have 5 petals. Any reason why this is, as this is the first time it's ever happened.
Most likely, it is a mutation sport. Pretty neat. If you notice that the flowers remain double on that same vine, then I would take a cutting. Make a copy of it. You'd have a really unique cultivar!
