Q.Why Have I Got A Multiple Petaled Flower

Zone CREWE Cheshire | Richard Davies added on June 4, 2025 | Answered

I have a Clematis, had it for around 10 years. It’s cropped back every year after flowering and dying off.Its had damage due to wind blowing fence down too… Recently it’s grown quicker than ever and have noticed that there is 1 multiple petaled flower, all the other flowers have 5 petals. Any reason why this is, as this is the first time it’s ever happened.

Most likely, it is a mutation sport. Pretty neat. If you notice that the flowers remain double on that same vine, then I would take a cutting. Make a copy of it. You'd have a really unique cultivar!
