I want to buy a christmas tree to replant in a big garden. But I dont know what type will be the best. Its going to be in New Jersey, and I need the tree to be 10-12 ft tall. Low maintenance, not extreme roots. Which one do you recommend?

October 5, 2018A.I have several questions. Have you given the ultimate size of the tree, 10-12 ft, or size upon purchase? How much sun will the tree get once planted? Is the soil clay-like or more sandy? Will it be subject to salt spray from the ocean of from streets? Pines and spruce are well-known for their shallow roots. Ball and burlap trees stand a better chance than trees grown in containers. Be careful to keep the burlap moist. BB5 2JDQ.Will alkaline water kill my Christmas tree
I purchased a large Christmas tree yesterday. I have placed it in a large bucket type stand with gravel holding it in place. I opted for the bucket stand so it can be watered and last longer. However once the tree was up I noticed the gravel is limestone and I am worried that if I add water it will be very alkaline. Will this harm the tree or is no water worse than the wrong pH level? Any advice is very much appreciated

December 3, 2018A.If it is a cut tree, no roots, then no water is worse than high pH. I recommend rinsing the rocks and dumping the water out once or twice before placement and trimming.

UKQ.How Do I Move A Christmas Tree To A.new Place In The Garden?
My kid got a tiny shoot from Santa ten years ago, now we have a beautiful 10+ foot tree too near the house. How big will the root be, can I move it to the far end of the garden? Thank you

I have a Christmas tree (traditional) which I keep in a pot in the garden during the year. This one I've had for two years, it has occasionally shown some brown needles but not generally at this time of year. The pot is quite large for the roots so it's not cramped. Could it be too much rain? If I bring it in now will it recover by next week?

Certified ExpertA.There are a number of possibilities. Pine trees naturally shed their needles every so often and, if this is the case, you shouldn't worry. The needles naturally shed from the center of the tree. You may just need to clean them up and let the tree do this natural cleansing process.
However, if the tree has been exposed to insects or has a disease, you have a different problem on your hands. If you're seeing signs of infestation, treat it with neem oil a couple times. It will also drop needles if it experienced an earlier period of drought. You may want to give it a thorough irrigation before bringing it in. Certified ExpertA.In the US, Christmas trees can be fir trees, pine trees and many others. I know that they are very slow to grow from seed, so a bit of patience is in order for these little seedlings. I am concerned, though, that the pots are too large for the seedlings. This can cause overwatering issues. Try moving them to smaller containers and when they are six inches tall they can be transplanted outdoors.
