I have grown some butternut squash plants from seed (previous year fruit). One is definitely another butternut squash, the other plant looks similar, but has large dark green pumpkin type fruits. Not sure why or what to do with them now. The original butternut squash fruit was supposedly organic, but I wonder if it was a hybrid and the plant has reverted back to original? Would they still be edible?
Yes, the seeds may not resemble the parent plant if they were harvested from a hybrid plant.
We have tons of squash, but they are turning a little brown, like rust, in spots. Can we pick them now and let them ripen til they are ready? Will they turn darker if we pick them now? Thank you.
You can sometimes ripen them off the vine, depending on how close to maturity they are. This article will help you try: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/edible/vegetables/squash/ripening-green-unripe-squash.htm
Our squash plants got hit with frost September 10. The squash were not quite ready for harvest but now the plants are wrecked. Can the squash be picked and ripened indoors or are they destined for the composte pile? Same question applies to our Acorn squash.

The plant has two squashes on at present but also a lot of what I presume are male flowers. Should I take the male flowers off the butternut squash plant?
You should not remove the male blossoms. You need male blossoms for pollination of the female flowers.

Plant raised and kept indoors are starting to turn yellow and die, why?
Your seedlings may not have had enough sunlight.
Another cause of yellowing leaves is watering issues; either too much or too little.

The skin of some of my butternut squashes has turned brown, in ring patterns. The fruits are still very firm. What has caused this, and what should I do in future to stop it, please?
This could be black rot, also known as gummy stem blight. This disease affects both the fruit and stems/leaves Anthracnose is another possibility. Both are common diseases in some regions.
