Last year I planted basil in the ground and it grew very well; however, many of the leaves had holes in it towards the end of the summer. I then bought a basil pot and had it on my patio away from the basil in the ground, and again, the leaves got holes in it. I noticed a little black pinhead sized bug on the leaf when I harvested some. Can you tell me what the name of this bug is and how I can prevent it from eating my basil?
It is a flea beetle. Here is more information:

My basil keeps getting holes in the leaves and/or black spots on the leaves. What is the cause, and how do I stop it from happening?
This is most likely caused by the flea beetle. Here is more information:

I have planted purple basil indoors and it has germinated and is now around 1" tall. However, I have noticed that it has not grown for nearly 2 weeks (it was planted 4 weeks ago) and also seems to being cut off at soil level. The cuttings look clean (i. e. not wilted, spotted, have visible aphids). It seems like something is cleanly cutting it at soil level. Does anyone know what this could be and how to treat it? The seeds were planted in sterile potting compost. yp
Yes, it does sound as if the seedlings are damping off. The above article will help with that.
sounds like damping off. need great drainage

This article can help you with preventing damping off:

Thank you . I looked up both of these and think it may be damping off. I will start again and not overwater.
Is it best to plant herbs in pots due to the fact that some plants tend to grow and take over everything else in the garden?
Only a few herbs are invasive and these would be mint and lemon balm. The rest are well behaved. But you can grow them in pots or in the ground, whichever is more convenient for you. They do well in either place.
Nikki is correct but keep in mind that once cilantro flowers it can and will reseed itself unless you pinch off the flowers.
Will rabbits eat the cilantro and basil in my garden? Also, in the area are many deer, chipmunks, and squirrels.
Yes, they will eat them if they discover they are there. These articles will help you: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/plant-problems/pests/how-to-keep-rabbits-out-of-gardens.htm

Is it all right to plant basil, sage, cilantro, and thyme together in one strawberry pot? If not, what would be the best combo?
Basil, sage and thyme are ok in the same pot. I would put the cilantro in a pot of its own because it dies off quickly and needs to be replanted frequently.
I am growing basil indoors from seeds. I have sprouted the seeds and planted them in a seed starter. For soil I mixed a bag of manure with a bag of potting soil and the soil from a pot that I used in the past. I have a 150-watt bulb. How often and how much water should I give them? How much light should I give them every day?
