Most of the winter my azela stayed green, but after a significant snowfall and freeze it turned completely brown. Is this normal or is it most likely dead?
I doubt that the cold snap killed your azalea but it may have ruined the bloom buds. When the plant shows signs of spring growth, you may need to remove dead branch tips. Give the shrub extra time before you reach for the pruners. If the tips are dead, trim back to a healthy bud or leaves. The inside of a twig, the pith, should be whitish with a thin green ring just under the bark. Dark tan or brown pith means the area is dead and you should cut back a bit further. Good luck and I hope you didn't lose your spring blooms. Worse case scenario is that the shrub dies back close to the ground but the roots will survive and push up a new plant.
I am clearing some ground under trees of different kinds as well as conifers. will it make good mulching material?
Yes, leyland cypress needles in well managed compost should be fine for mulching heather and azalea.
Our very large azalea bush is dying. The leaves are covered with small pin size black spots and the stems have grey/black spots. Should the plant be removed? Or can it be saved?
This seems like an infection, and can likely be cured by applying wettable sulfur and dolomitic lime. This will help kill the problem, and replenish the soil's pH afterwords.
I have a pink azalea that is always sticky. The buds are brown. Because I do get flowers, I'm not sure if these are dead buds or if they are supposed to be that way. Is this a diseased azalea? If there is something wrong, how to take care of this azalea?
This is likely residue from pests, called honeydew.
Treat with Neem Oil.

Yes, go ahead and clean up the spent flowers and trim to the shape you desire.
the blooms have a brown scorch
Please include photos, and details on where the plant is, how much light, water, and any other factors that go into its care, and your feeding schedule.
It will be hard to say what's going on until I have some details. Please include these and photos, and I will be more than glad to help you.
