I have some asparagus that has ended up on the wrong side of the fence and I want to transplant it. Is there a specific way to do this?

It is June and I live in Illinois. Is it too late to get some asparagus crowns and add to my garden? I have a bed already but it did not do well this year. Bed is approximately 20 years old. If not, where is a good place to get the crowns?

I've heard that grass and weeds in asparagus can be killed out by applying simple salt solution. Is this true, and if so, what kind and how much?
Salt affects all plants, so while it will kill the weeds, it won't help your asparagus very much. Generally, weeds need to be controlled before the asparagus sprouts. This article will help:

My asparagus plants have just come through their first winter (I planted from roots). I need to relocate them. They are currently 5 feet high. I don't have a problem moving them, but my question is about cutting them down. I know they have at least another year to "mature", so should I leave them standing tall this coming winter, or cut them down to 2 inches? Thank you for your time. Shar
You can cut them back in the fall. The foliage should not be cut till after it turns yellow, but once it turns yellow, it is dead and is of no further use to the plant so can be cut back, even if the plant is young.
When should I stop picking my asparagus? It's 9 years old.
Early to mid June is the best time to stop harvesting. This allows the plant to build its strength back up for next year's harvest.
thanks heather
Do I rototill asparagas bed in fall or spring?
If they are established (older than 3 years) and planted to the proper depth, you can till shallowly up to 2 times a year. Before the spring growth appears and then after the season is over are both appropriate for tilling asparagus.
I am going to have to get rid of my asparagus plants just as they have started to produce. These are Jersey asparagus and I had a good crop this spring. Is there any way of transplanting them in early summer without killing them?
Any time you transplant any plant in summer, the key to survival is water. make sure that you water them frequently for several weeks after you transplant them.
