Q.Stopping fruit/nut production

Zone 92020 | rhodalwhite added on January 31, 2018 | Answered

We have two mature macadamia nut trees in our (Southern California) garden. They produce
prolifically, but despite trying MANY techniques over many years, we are unable to successfully harvest and preserve the nuts. For us they are simply an attractive nuisance for rats. We want to stop the nut production. I think there are sprays for olive trees to prevent fruit from setting. Is there any similar way to halt the nut production on our trees without harming the tree?

Yes there is. This can be quite difficult, but with the right timing, and knowhow you can do this. Here is an article that will help you: https://www.gardeningknowhow.com/ornamental/trees/tgen/fruit-tree-sterilization.htm
