Q.Staghorn Fern

Zone South Florida | lmn328 added on August 17, 2015 | Answered

Our adopted fern just broke from the chain where its hung for over 10 years. The plant is 4-5′ and weighs well well over 100 lbs. We will never get it back in the tree. Is there another way we can keep it? I feel it should be off the ground, so will a wagon or wheel barrel work?

Hanging in a basket is really the best growing location for a Staghorn.
It is way to large to attach to a board.

I would try to get it hung back up if at all possible and use a heavier chain.
A hardware store can cut chains to the desired length and can help you with the gauge that you would need for the appropriate weight.
