My climbing rose had black spot. Many leaves fell off and turned brown. I did finally spray it with a fungicide but it looks so sad. There are some little buds at junctures on the stems (it’s trying :(…Should I just cut the whole rose way back?

If you don't cut it back you will start to lose the stems as well. Cut back to the greenest of the stem. When you start to see new growth, spray it with fungicide. Black spot will come back if you don't.
