Q.Should I Remove Old Mulch Before Using Cow Manure Compost?
I live in Houston, Zone 9. In a new bed started this spring, I put down wood chip mulch as a top cover. I am wanting to add cow manure compost to this bed. Can I add it directly on top of the wood chip mulch, or do I need to remove the mulch first? After adding the manure, do I have to have the wood chip mulch as a top layer? Thanks!

Generally, it is best to remove the mulch, apply composted manure, then apply the previous mulch, or new mulch. However, it will not hurt to put it on top of the old mulch. It will destroy the look of the mulch, but it will not harm a thing.
