Q.Separating The Base Of A Ponytail
I have a large ponytail tree pushing into the wall of my house. It’s about 46 years old. The base has about 3 large bulbs. Two of them have partially separated on their own. Can you separate the bulbs to re plant them or would that kill it? I need to get this tree off the side of my house. I’m not sure if it’s too big to move. The bark on some of the branches is flaking (rotting off) and I don’t know if this is a sign my tree is dying.

You don't say how large it is, but if you think you can dig up the bulbs and get most of the root balls you may be able to transplant it. Something needs to be done, it sounds like, so you may as well try, or call a professional to move it. Here are tips on transplanting:
