Q.Schefflera rooting

Zone 86335 | Sunshower added on December 2, 2015 | Answered

My 10 year old large Schefflera, which used to be so gorgeous, has dropped all its leaves – has new growth at the bottom of its stem – and ‘spoke’ like ‘branches’ where the large leaves dried and dropped off.

The stem is now brown in the middle. Two new sets of leaves have sprouted at the top, but they have not matured, and are now wilting, and this in the last two months.

A person with a green thumb recommends creating two plants from this one by cutting the top part off, at a ‘bend’ in the stem, and planting that. And cutting away the brown part of the stem.

Your thoughts, please.

I would try to determine why the plant suddenly dropped all it's leaves before pruning up the plant.
Did the growing conditions change?
Proper light and watering conditions?
Signs of insects or fungus?
