Sand on Zoysia

Question

I need some help. I was advised by Tru Green to put an inch or two of sand on my zoysia lawn. They said it would make the zoysia grow back stronger and kill the weeds and other grasses. It’s been three weeks and there has been very little growth of the zoysia through the sand. What should I do?

I am not familiar with zoysia grass. I have read that it will choke out weeds and other grasses. If it were me, I would get TruGreen to evaluate the outcome of their suggestion. I would also ask the turf specialist at your local agricultural extension office what recommendations he/she would make.
