A friend gave me her household sago palm, which became too large for indoors. Can I safely plant the sago palm ouside in my sunny garden?

Yes, sago palms do well outdoors, in full sun, once they are established. You may wish to gradually acclimatize it to sunny conditions, keeping it in the pot, to ensure it does not become stressed. When it appears to have become conditioned to the new sunny location, you may put it in the ground, watering well to ensure it transplants successfully.
