Q.Runners on FordHook 242 Lima Beans

Zone Northern Virginia | ronaldlayman@comcast.net added on June 16, 2014 | Answered

I planted the bush variety (that is what the package says) of the above lima beans. They are full of runners. If I cut them off, will that limit my crop i.e. do they blossom on the runners or on the main plant?

I don't generally recommend that people cut the runners off vegetable plants, mainly because it can cause more harm than good. The damage cutting the runners off causes would open the plant up to disease and stress. Better to leave them. The plant will produce just as well, though it may not look as tidy.
