My wife has a rose plant in the middle of a bunch of hostas. This year it looks like all the leaves have been eaten with only the ribs remaining. Can you tell us the cause and remedy?

It sounds like rose slugs. The best remedy is to buy some Bayer Tree and Shrub granules. Apply the product as stated on the label. Spraying the rosebush with a good insecticide would be a good idea until the granules treatment can kick in.
