Q.Roots of Live Oak going under sidewalk

Zone Houston, Texas | majorsbuddy added on June 4, 2015 | Answered

My husband is seriously considering sawing through tree roots that are spreading under the sidewalk near the front of our home. I am concerned that this would cause irreversible damage to the tree. It is about 12 feet from the sidewalk and too late to put in a root barrier. What do we do? Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

You could do extensive damage to your tree and even kill the tree by cutting a root.
This is a case that I would consult a certified Arborist and determine if the root can safely be cut and the proper way to do so.
