Can pachysandra inhibit growth of the rhododendron?

My research indicates that a rhododendron and a pachysandra might not make a good marriage. Rhododendrons have shallow roots and may be deprived of nutrients and water by the pachysandra, which is a thirsty and aggressive evergreen cover.
